ACMA Obesity Forum 

On March 15th, 2008, ACMA held the Obesity Forum in Day Hotel.  Dr. Xue-Jun Kong, attending physician of BIDMC, served as moderator, 30 physicians and experts from England area participated the forum.

First, Dr. Zhao Liu, an endocrinologist and nutrition specialist of Beverly Hospital, gave a slide presentation titled “Adult Obesity and Its Management”.   She introduced the etiology and major complications of Obesity, compared with different treatment options, addressed the importance of mental health and correct diet structure. Her talk was vivid and insightful, raised wide discussion of the topic. The physicians and experts all expressed their deep concerns on the rapid growth of obesity in our Asian population.  They strongly urged immediate attention from the community. They pointed out that obesity is really a major health problem, which can directly or indirectly cause heart disease, diabetes, hypertension, hyper-lipidemia, stroke, osteoarthritis, even sudden death and all different kind of complications. They called for every joint effort of our community working together, to lose weight and promote our health.  Start today since we have no time to wait!

The participates include: Dr.Jerry Zhu, Gastroenterologist and Dr.Jenny Gao, Cancer researcher of Brigham & Woman Hospital; Dr. Lucy Chen and Dr.Jianren Mao, Pain specialist, Researcher Dr.Yanhua Tang of MGH; Dr. Hsiaoyu Lee, Gynecologist, Dr. Rongji Guan, Gastroenterologist, Dr.Minping Liu, Internist of BIDMC; Dr.Minda Huang, Family Medicine expert; Dr.Dongfen Chen, Pathologist of Rhode Island Hospital; Dr.Jinghua yang, Associate Professor, and Dr.Pingping Kuang, Assistant Professor of Boston University; Drs. Renzhi Zhou, Yan Li and Lynn Li, Attending physicians of UMass Medical Center; Dr.Qing Liu, Cancer Researcher, etc. They all exchanged and shared their own clinical experience and personal opinion about Obesity management.

Lastly, Dr.Jerry Zhu made closing remark. He addressed ACMA as health bridge, aiming at serving our community better, and promoting a healthier world.
