ACMA Autism Forum in 2007

 

On December 1 of 2007, ACMA held Autism Forum in Lexington Library Conference Center.  Dr. Xue-Jun Kong, Instructor of Harvard Medical School, Attending physician of Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, served as moderator and the first speaker. She gave an overview of Autism and illustrated the possible mechanism of autism epidemic  and efficacy of new biomedical treatments with her own clinical experiences. Dr.Wendy Qiu, assistant professor of Tufts Medical School and Attending Psychiatrist, offered her insightful opinion in Autism and its treatment principal, from psychiatry’s perspective. Then Dr.Bailin Wu, Assistant Professor of Harvard Medical School, Director of Genetic Lab of Children’s Hospital reported his recent breakthrough findings and exciting  research works on Autism genotype, proposed their future value in clinical prenatal diagnosis and gene therapy. Lastly, Dr. Xiuying Yang, Nutrition Specialist of Harvard Medical School and private reflexologist, Shared her knowledge of Energy therapy in Autism and her own clinical experience.

The specialists and experts pointed out and concluded, Autism is treatable and preventable, although complicated and poorly defined. Autism epidemic in recent years deserve special attention of our society, more researches need to be founded and carried out. On the other hand, parents should recognize the biomedical aspect of Autism and its reversible factors in individual situation, actively cooperate with physicians and looks for corresponding treatments, in order to achieve the maximal potential of each patient.

Other Participants include: Dr.Jerry Zhu, Brigham Women’s Hospital attending gastroenterologist; Dr. Ruibao Ren, Associate Professor of Brandeis University; Dr. Jinghua Yang, Associate Professor of Boston University; Dr.Danru Lee, Instructor of Harvard Medical School and Attending Physician of Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center; Dr. Pingping Kuang, Assistant Professor of Boston University; Mr. Zhengkun Zhu, Research Assistant of Boston University, Dr. Yiping Shen, Genetic Specialist in Children’s Hospital of Boston, and some Autism Parents Mrs. Mary White, Mrs. Ann Lee, etc. They all actively involved the discussion, offered their own unique point of view in Autism. The conference is very successful, lasted the whole afternoon and evening. Everyone agrees that collaboration need to be established among the specialists, to further study Autism.
